Anthropic’s approved fund is only the starting point. Getting paid depends on who owns each work, how the proceeds are divided and whether payment details are complete. This opening edition follows those steps, then asks a separate commercial question: which AI licensing deals actually reveal a price?
1 priced USD settlement in this edition.
Approved funds and announced settlements.
Money promised and money received are recorded separately. Unknown payments stay unknown.
Selected announcements with a public unit price.
Opening selection: three AI copyright settlements and seven licensing disclosures. Two settlement amounts remain undisclosed. These are dated records, not a market total or money paid this week. How we count ↗
Class counsel reported three principal deposits: $300 million, $300 million and $450 million. Interest is excluded. This is a historical report of money held in trust, not a verified current balance or claimant distribution.
Calculation: reported principal ÷ gross commitment. Interest and claimant distributions are separate.
The administrator expects payment by November 15 for resolved, payment-ready works. A disagreement over the split can move a work into a later round.
Class counsel reported $1.05 billion of principal in the settlement trust. That document does not establish that the money reached authors or publishers.
Warner’s Suno deal and Universal’s Udio deal each combine settlement with a licensing relationship. Neither announcement publishes a settlement amount or licensing rate.
This is the opening edition. Weekly comparisons begin when another verified edition is published; there is no invented trend line.
The headline adds disclosed USD amounts from court-approved or announced settlements in this edition. It includes gross settlement funds before fees and administrative costs. A private deal with no price remains in the ledger but adds no estimated value. Claims, proposed settlements, verdicts, interest and licensing agreements are excluded from this figure.
A scheduled funding installment does not prove it was paid. Funding a settlement account does not prove claimants received distributions. Confirmed claimant payments need dated evidence; missing observations remain unknown.
Prices must have a stated unit, term and rights scope. A per-work settlement allocation compensates a legal claim; it is not a price for permission to train a model. No “standard AI licensing rate” is calculated from this selected collection.
The source project collected selected official court RSS notices. This edition preserves its dated records from public court documents, settlement administrators and company announcements. An editor checks changed amounts, classifications and conditional dates before publishing. Paid PACER retrieval and an authenticated CourtListener API feed are not connected.
